Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Aboriginal Cultural Awareness is a multi-level course that will continue indefinitely for those working in Children’s Services. Level 1 is an 8 hour workshop intended to provide employees with information regarding the truths, myths, traditions and history of some of the Aboriginal communities located throughout Canada. Levels 2 and beyond require the attendance of 8 hours of approved Aboriginal cultural events per year. (Levels 2 & 3 may be fulfilled by attending another 8 hour class). Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training is mandatory for all employees working in Children’s Services and some adult residences. It needs to be obtained within the first 6 months of employment with a recertification every year for Children's Services only.
